What is CBD?
Can CBD help people with cancer?
Studies are underway to answer this question. Some studies say CBD may relieve some of the side effects of cancer and its treatment, such as pain, insomnia, anxiety, or nausea. Other scientists are studying whether CBD might slow or stop cancer growth. Some people with cancer have reported benefits from taking CBD, such as helping with nausea, vomiting, and depression.
WHAT TYPES OF CANCER COULD CBD BE USEFUL FOR?
GLIOMAS / These brain tumors are usually very aggressive. Sometimes they can be surgically removed, with all that this entails in terms of the possibility of sequelae. Both THC and CBD are shown to be effective in mice, associated used in this type of tumors, and enhance their effect.
PROSTATE / Some types of prostate cancer see their growth inhibited with CBD treatments.
BREAST / Side effects would be reduced. CBD are widely used by breast cancer patients to treat nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, in addition to improving general condition. There is a preclinical study indicating that the acid form of CBD, is effective in inhibiting the migration of cancer cells.
Other types of cancer in which CBD could be useful include lymphomas, colon, lung, skin, pancreas, leukemias and stomach.
While CBD appears to help ease some cancer symptoms and side effects of treatment, no research suggests that CBD can combat cancer itself. And as the National Cancer Institute points out, taking CBD may actually inhibit certain cancer treatments. Oncology patients can benefit from CBD treatment to treat chemotherapy-related symptoms and improve their quality of life.
As with any new supplement, speak with a doctor before using CBD during cancer treatment to ensure that it will not cause interactions.
